December Lake Lanier Striper Fishing Report
December Fishing Report
Happy Holidays to you all. December has been a much better month on the lake. The lake turnover has completed lakewide and the fish have turned on. We have caught fish from Young Deer to above Clark's Bridge this week. The key every where on the lake is to find the bait and when you do, start fishing. We are not neccessarily marking a lot of fish with the bait, but they are there so put a bait in the water.
On the south end of the lake start looking about half way back in the creeks all the way to the back. Large flats, in the 20 to 35 foot depths, close to the creek channel have been the best places to pull flat lines and planer boards rigged with medium to large trout and gizzard shad in the 6-10" range. The northern creeks have had more bait around the mouths so you do not have to go as far back. Late morning and mid-day, the U-rig bite has also been good using Captain Mack's 2 oz, 4 arm rig with 3/4 oz jigs with white, chartreuse, or blue/white curl tail trailers. Pull these 80-100' behind the boat around the creek or river channel edges in 30-60' of water.
If you want to target spots, try using a 1/2 or 3/4 oz Captain Mack's Jigging Spoon or Flex-It spoon in 30-50' of water off the primary points in most creeks. The crappie bite is also very good right now on the north end of the lake. We have had at least one 100 plus fish day per week since mid October. Shoot docks that have boat lifts, brush, and at least 15' of water under them. It is not easy fishing, but it can produce a lot of fish. 1/32 or 1/16 oz pink/white or white/white Captain Mack's Popeye Jigs have been consistent producers as have the 1/32 oz Super Popeye in black/chartreuse or white/yellow.
If you need a last minute gift certificate, I can still deliver them to you anywhere in town. So, give me a call today and let's set up a Striper Experience for you or someone on your Christmas list!
