The striper fishing has been fair for about the last 6 weeks. The water temperature has dropped into the mid 70's and with it the top water action is starting to pick up. Most points and humps on the south end of the lake have seen good action for spots with Zara Spooks and Redfins being the go to baits. Recently, there have also been some stripers starting to school up and come to the surface. Keep your eyes open as you move around the lake. If you can get to them while they are up, try casting either top water plugs or a 3/8 oz Capt Mack Bucktail or a Pulse Jig with a Zoom Fluke Jr trailer. These fish will go down fast so make sure you have a downlined herring ready to put out as well while you are casting to the schoolers. This pattern should continue throughout the month with the top water action getting better and better.
It is time for big fish as well. October and November can be great months for big fish up the rivers. We made a scouting trip on Friday, September 23rd, and put 4 fish in the boat between 18 and 28lbs. We had 3 fish blow up without hooking up and 2 that we could not stop with 40lb outfits. This trip is a fast paced, serious fishing trip and is not recommended for novices. If you are interested in one of these trips, contact me as soon as possible as there will be a limited number available. I am excited to offer these big fish trips this year and I believe the 40lb mark will be broken more than once this fall.
Fall can be a great time of year to fish. The weather is cooling down and the fish are feeding hard getting ready for the winter. The top water bite is also a lot of fun and a welcome change of pace from the downnline bite of summer. Fishing will improve as the weather gets colder and family and fun trips will heat up along with the big fish trips. Give me a call today and let's set up your Striper Experience!
